DOUGLAS COUNTY TO TRANSITION TO VOTE CENTER MODEL

Douglas County will be transitioning from traditional precinct-based polling locations to a countywide vote center model, beginning with the next regularly scheduled election on June 2, 2026.

Under the new system, voters will no longer be required to vote at a specific precinct location. Instead, any registered voter in Douglas County will be able to cast their ballot at any designated vote center within the county on Election Day.

There will be two (2) vote center locations in Douglas County as follows:
1: The Corsica Community Building, located on Main St. in the City of Corsica.
2: The Douglas County 4-H Building, located at 39182 280th St., Armour. (Behind the Armour City Pool)

“Vote centers will allow us to modernize our election process while improving voter convenience with a long-term goal of cost savings for our taxpayers,” said Phyllis Barker, Douglas County Auditor. “Voters will have the flexibility to choose the location that works best for their schedule, whether that’s near their home, workplace, or along their travel route. While some residents may have to drive farther than they did previously, I am confident that this solution will be favorable for the majority of Douglas County voters.”

The transition will also allow the County to lower operating costs due to fewer duplicate resources, staffing needs, and ballot printing. The electronic poll pads required to support the vote center model will be funded through federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA) funds, meaning there will be no additional cost to the County’s general fund for this technology.

Electronic poll pads provide secure, real-time voter verification to ensure accurate check-in and prevent duplicate voting. Ballots themselves remain secret, and there is no way for poll pads to connect a voter’s identity to their vote. All existing election safeguards remain in place, including voter identification requirements and ballot accounting procedures.

Douglas County remains committed to conducting secure, accessible, and efficient elections for all residents.
